I’m a native English speaker, with an English Literature degree from the University of Warwick (First class) and a MA in Writing, Nature and Place from the University of Exeter (Distinction). I’ve undertaken and passed core proofreading training with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.
I’m experienced in proofreading academic work across the whole academic spectrum, and have proofed PhD theses as various as nuclear fusion and folksong. I specialise in the Arts subjects, mainly writing (literature, nature/travel writing, memoir). I also proof a lot of academic papers in social sciences (particularly concerning China studies), education, biological sciences, and economics.
I work in Research Services for Exeter University, and have spent over a decade working in quality-related roles in the education sector (including an examining body), so I understand the importance of academic integrity and fine detail. It’s also meant that I’ve amassed experience in proofreading professional documentation, policies and procedures, as well as a huge array of training and quality assurance materials.
I’m based in Cornwall, where alongside proofreading I look after three small children. (I know a lot about dinosaurs and Paw Patrol.)
